Cryptocurrency – be careful of dangerous sites

As cryptocurrency is immensely popular at the moment and a lot of people are getting interested then there are a lot of scam and dodgy sites and links at the moment

In this article we will highlight things to look out for and also to avoid, a lot of this is common sense but still catches many people

Contents

Sites that download files

This is one that I have seen on a few sites when you click on PTC ads or on short link sites which are very common on crypto sites.

If the site downloads an executable to your PC then delete it – you should never trust downloads from ‘mystery' sites, even if its a commonly known application.

Sites that want you to download files

Similar to above, you visit a site and it says that an application is out of date, usually flash. Do not click anything, do not download anything, leave the site it's not worth it.

There is a fair chance that the exe will actually contain a virus or keylogger

Sites that ‘promise miracles'

Double your bitcoin, just put your bitcoin address details into the text box and click.

Does this sound to good to be true, then it will be. The most likely scenario is that you will lose your precious crypto.

Follow the mantra – if it sounds to good to be true, it is

Pop up windows

Another one that is common on short link and PTC sites, if a pop up opens – close it.

I have seen a lot of ‘dodgy' sites including sites in the first 2 categories above and also a few porn sites. If porn sites are a problem then be very careful.

A few short link sites seem to be full of these

Summary

Be careful out there, I will update with a list of dodgy urls and I will also try and grab screenshots but I do not like to leave a lot of these open
